DIGITAL LEARNING FOR COMPANIES

6 Minuten

Digital learning is revolutionizing the way we acquire and share knowledge. But what does that mean exactly? Digital learning refers to educational processes that are carried out with digital technologies – from online courses to interactive learning apps.

In today’s educational landscape, digital learning has become essential. As an experienced E-LEARNING AGENCY, we would like to illustrate the reasons for this in our new blog post with a short story.

THE ADVANTAGES OF DIGITAL LEARNING?

Even though Tim and Tom are twins, their characters couldn’t be more different. Even as a child, Tim was always the one who liked to try new things and was open to the unfamiliar. Tom, on the other hand, was always overcome by a deep shudder when he had to leave his comfort zone and therefore always followed the principle of “preserve what has been proven” in his life. So it is not surprising that Tim preferred digital learning in young adulthood, while Tom preferred traditional learning methods. So let’s take a look at their experiences:

It’s December, it’s snowing outside and the whole city looks like it’s dipped in thick cotton wool. Tim still has a lot to learn for his new job and opens his tablet under the warming blanket to go through the various e-learning modules of his employer. This is because he relies on digital learning at home. He reworks what he doesn’t understand, because digital learning offers an individualistic learning approach in which each learner can work at their own pace. In this way, he quickly discovers his weaknesses and strengths and can continuously work on himself through the integrated tracking.

Unfortunately, Tom doesn’t have such a nice morning. Even though the snow still looked cozy from the bed, there is a reason why he stayed in bed in the first place – it’s terribly cold. Since his company, like him, does not rely on DIGITAL EMPLOYEE TRAINING and digital learning, he has to drive two and a half hours into the North Hessian nothingness today to attend an eight-hour face-to-face training course. When he arrives at the venue with half-frozen hands and snow in his boots, the warm coffee breath of his seat neighbor takes away the last bit of tranquility. The training hasn’t even started yet. So better back to Tim.

Meanwhile, Tim enjoys the various gamification elements that are integrated into the Learning Management System (LMS). Through these methods of digital learning, he feels more motivated and learns in a relaxed way the skills that are crucial for his work.

Tom has been listening to the same monotonous voice for over two hours, while the stuffy heating air makes his eyelids heavier every second. Unfortunately, the motivation has already left him after the introductory round and the “game elements” of the face-to-face training are limited to unpleasant role-playing and throwing a brown and black teddy bear at each other. It’s all somehow far from an Oscar-worthy performance. Even though Tom feels like he’s in “The Revenant”, he takes the opportunity to clarify his questions with the trainer of the training. Tom tells the speaker the points that need clarification, which, however, are only very difficult to answer due to long digressions by the trainer. While Tom lowers his head in confusion and begins to find the answers via Google and smartphone, his coffee seat neighbor smiles at him that he can also contact him with questions.

MASTERING THE CHALLENGES OF DIGITAL LEARNING AND TRAINING

Tim and Tom meet in a coffee shop and discuss their experiences. They quickly realize that they both have to overcome different challenges. Even though Tim initially feels superior in the discussion with the advantages of digital learning, he has to admit that he also forgets the interaction with his colleagues here and there and is also occasionally distracted by social media, the household and various other disruptive factors. In this way, both realize that their differences are not a bad thing at all, but simply have to be skillfully combined. The challenges of digital learning can be overcome through targeted strategies. In particular, the creation of interactive learning content and the promotion of a learning culture that relies on self-motivation and self-management help here. Regular exchange with employees should also not be neglected in order to make digital learning sustainable and effective.

Designated HR staff organise most of the administrative tasks (e.g. invitations to participants, reservations for rooms and the necessary infrastructure or other resources). Parts of the process are partially automated.
A software system automates numerous actions. However, there are still numerous manual organisational tasks that require specific employees to take action for the final organisation.
We already have a (learning management) system that supports us with the organisational tasks required for training. There are still a few organisational tasks that have to be carried out manually by a very small number of employees and with only a manageable amount of effort.
