In the business division of FSV Hollwitz-Burgbach, an ambitious club in the 2nd football league, there had been a tense atmosphere for several days. The last 12 months had put the club’s image to a severe test and increasingly unsettled the fans. Unsubstantiated accusations of manipulated games had left deep scars, and now the club faced the challenge of restoring its reputation as a talent incubator.
In these turbulent times, Thomas, the head of the Public Relations department, stepped up. His idea? An innovative, fast onboarding of the new PR expert Yasmin. It was clear that the average training period in PR had to be drastically reduced under the given circumstances. How? With the help of e-learning, the whole thing should be accomplished.
Thomas was firmly convinced that e-learning is the key that significantly streamlines the average training period and enthusiastically told his team about it. It offered Yasmin a unique opportunity to quickly and effectively familiarize herself with the complex topics of compliance, strategic corporate alignment, and the usage possibilities of available PR channels. The urgency with which innovative and positive PR ideas had to be implemented called for an unconventional and fast method. So he developed a suitable onboarding plan for Yasmin, which should enable her to get started within a very short time and resolve the PR disaster. Thomas placed great hope in e-learning to streamline the normally average training period. On the one hand, he saw great advantages in the fact that the Learning Management System (LMS) can be individually tailored to the new employee and progress can be tracked. The gamification elements would also take some pressure off Yasmin, as learning would now be more playful. He had already identified SWISSTEACH as a suitable E-LEARNING AGENCY, who were known for their customized E-LEARNING FOR COMPANIES.
So much for Thomas’ plan. But could the desired effect really be achieved here? Let’s ask Yasmin herself.
THE AVERAGE TRAINING PERIOD: YASMIN’S PERSPECTIVE
With little experience, I started my first day at FSV Hollwitz-Burgbach, which had always been my favorite club. I knew about the manipulation allegations and already thought that the atmosphere on site would probably not be the best. But I, as a new employee, would certainly still receive my average usual training period … Wishful thinking. Thomas introduced himself to me in an earnestly friendly manner, but you could tell that something was brewing inside him. With a throbbing temple, slightly sweaty forehead, and a strained smile, he explained to me that we “had to shorten the average training period a little due to the current situation.” I was immediately electrified. As a rule, one spoke of at least three to four months in the PR area until at least the procedure or strategy was clear, as well as the PR channels were reasonably surveyed. Thomas tried to take a diplomatic approach, but the message was clear: The first results should be available after 8 weeks.
I already saw myself traveling from place to place, taking notes and learning like crazy to meet expectations. But all Thomas gave me was a tablet on which I would find everything I needed. I was confused. That was Thomas’ plan? Shorten my average training period with a tablet? I was skeptical, but I had no other choice. So I started with the first DIGITAL EMPLOYEE TRAININGS and soon took a liking to the format. After a short time, I no longer felt so pressured and saw rapid progress in myself. I noticed that above all the flexibility helped me to cope with the workload and to shorten my average training period. I playfully completed my tasks, sometimes even on long train or bus journeys, so that I didn’t have so much to do during the week.
The LMS clearly showed me my strengths and weaknesses, which allowed me to work on them in a targeted manner, and the necessary certificates and evidence were all secured in the LMS. Thus, e-learning not only shortened my average training period, but more than that, it greatly facilitated my daily work – and that, of course, especially with a view to the future.
AVERAGE TRAINING PERIOD WITH E-LEARNING: a SUCCESS STORY
With the help of e-learning, Yasmin’s average training period could be drastically shortened. Thomas and Yasmin immediately launched a first PR campaign that perfectly matched the new strategic direction of FSV Hollwitz-Burgbach. The fast onboarding and the subsequent successful PR campaigns were proof of the effectiveness of e-learning in critical times or under challenging circumstances. “The whole thing has given us a decisive advantage. The plan has worked out and the setup will serve us in the future for any new hires. Taking into account Yasmin’s feedback, structures were created in the LMS from which our future new employees can greatly benefit,” Thomas emphasized. Yasmin added: “Without the possibility to familiarize myself so quickly, we would not have been able to react so promptly to the challenges.”
The innovative onboarding strategy had not only accelerated Yasmin’s start, but also shown how crucial the shortening of the average training period – mind you, without any negative impact on the quality of knowledge transfer – can be for coping with corporate crises. Through e-learning, a flexible, efficient, and effective onboarding method was established, which helped FSV Hollwitz-Burgbach to successfully improve its image and prepare for a promising future. Maybe even in the first league in the future … we’re keeping our fingers crossed anyway.
