INTRODUCTION TO E-LEARNING: WHAT NEEDS TO BE CONSIDERED?
Aktualisiert: Feb 4
We are often bombarded with tech-anglicisms these days and don't really know what they mean. The term e-learning can quickly become confusing for laymen, but in facts e-learning is a self-explanatory and dynamic concept with extremely positive effects for those involved. Basically, in this introduction to e-learning you will learn, that the definition of e-learning includes learning in digital spaces and thus further education can be advanced. E-learning provides several advantages, but there is no all-encompassing solution.
Therefore, SWISSTEACH would like to give you an introduction to e-learning and thus explain what this new method of learning is all about and what the great advantages and potentials are.
INTRODUCTION TO E-LEARNING FROM THE USER'S POINT OF VIEW
As with other digital services, the introduction to e-learning involves looking at the user`s and provider`s point of view at both times. Users or customers here are understood as those who take advantages of the offer. The term customer does not always have to be correct, because there are also different forms of learning for pupils where e-learning can occur as a great way of help, but after all the underlying concept is the same. The idea is that one party creates an appealing offer where e-learning takes place and the other party can satisfy its hunger for knowledge and thus great advantages can be taken of this offer.
A DEFINITION OF THE TERM: UNDERSTANDING E-LEARNING
What should not be missed in our introduction to e-learning is a consideration of the term and also a delimitation. This is not so easy, because according to the definition, various forms of technology-supported learning can be included. Especially in the field of technology and internet support, common forms of e-learning can be found in digital platforms today. These systems are often combined with support for the providers of one e-learning in order to create the ideal offer, from which in turn the users can benefit.
But the term e-learning can also be used in an extensive and variable way beyond this. This could include, for example, the following forms:
Even video conferences, which are now frequently used, can be considered as e-learning, depending on the content and added value.
Management systems support various forms of e-learning to the fullest.
Even programmes for modelling and simulating certain situations can be interpreted and used accordingly.
In addition, various forms of digital learning are also used in pedagogy, in which users are familiarised with the learning content in a playful way.
But: This article will also focus on an introduction to e-learning platforms and their added value for customers.
INTRODUCTION TO E-LEARNING: ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
If we look at the advantages during the introduction to e-learning, it is obvious that a large part of the pro-arguments is taken by the location-independent learning. It saves time and high travel costs efficiently. Consequently, from a company's point of view, it is much easier to mobilise employees and put them into the race. Thus, learning can be accomplished in an efficientway and usually be carried out even more frequently if there is demand.
However, when it comes to the introduction to e-learning content-related advantages must also be taken into consideration. For example, there is a large degree of standardisation, which meets with a certain flexibility. There is no need for rigidity, as questions can often be asked and the programmes can be individually adapted. It is also possible to integrate several languages in order to achieve the corresponding learning objectives.
On the other hand, there are a few things to note which we would like to show you quite transparently in the context of this introduction to e-learning, since classic forms of co-presence from time to time have advantages in learning. For example, e-learning formats demand more from the learners, as the attention span has to be maintained and not all content is intended for purely digital learning. It is also important to ensure that the necessary feedback mechanisms are in place to achieve the best results. After weighing up the pros and cons within this introduction to e-learning, digital learning is, however, promising because the advantages considered outweigh the disadvantages.
E-LEARNING IS AN IMPORTANT CONCEPT – NOT ONLY IN RESPONSE TO THE PANDEMIC
The megatrend of digitalisation has been with us for years and decades and will continue to develop in the future, while the Corona pandemic is the first experience of its kind for most of us. Not surprisingly, e-learning has been able to establish itself particularly well during this period and shine as a convincing response concept. However, in this introduction to e-learning, we would also like to emphasise that more and more companies are discovering the great potential of e-learning, as the unbeatable advantages remain, even if the advantage of a reduced risk of infection disappears again.
INTRODUCTION TO E-LEARNING: AT FIRST GLANCE TECHNICAL GADGETS, AT SECOND GLANCE REAL ENRICHMENT
In addition to the digital learning formats already mentioned in this introduction to e-learning, there are also excellent opportunities to use the best techniques. These may seem a bit playful at times, but in facts they are really advantageous. From interactive whiteboards, where people brainstorm together, to shared presentations an interactive modules the options are truly diverse. Thus, there is little to be said against combining e-learning with other tools on the Internet, as long as access is available and the application is understood quickly and intuitively.
